October 2010's Patch Tuesday breaks Microsoft's old record of 34 vulnerabilities fixed by 14 updates, which was set only two months ago. Users of Microsoft's Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office (including the Mac OS and Web Apps versions) are strongly encouraged to ensure that these latest updates are successfully downloaded and applied as soon as possible.

Four of the updates are rated Critical, the highest rating in Microsoft's Severity Rating System.

Hah, I was actually in the process of running these updates on my laptop, and Windows closed all my programs and tried to restart.

I caught it just in the nick of time, and opened Firefox back to what I was doing (commenting on a YouTube video).

Then I see this on YouTube's home page:

500 Internal Server Error

Sorry, something went wrong.

A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.
If you see them, show them this information:

WTF?! :trumpet:

I think I broke it.

lol.

You should expect Twitter and Facebook to start acting strange now with everybody going over there to complain about YouTube not working. :flowers:

Latest results for youtube down

Actually, it's just the home page that is broken (or hacked). If you go to a specific video or channel, everything is normal.

Strange.

Downloaded all of the updates and it went smooth and everything still works as it should. I shut all programs down except AV before downloading and installing.

I concur; 2 mins download, about 16 mins to install. The removal tool takes about 3-4 mins of that, to finish.

The only slow installs in the past have been to do with some .Net updates.

Also, whenever there are Outlook updates, I have to change Outlook Express back to my default mail program afterwards.

(Sung to the tune of Old MacDonald Had A Farm)

Windows gets another patch
One thousand more to go

With a band aid here and Duck tape there
A staple here and super glue there

Windows gets another patch
One thousand more to go!!

Obviously I had WAY to much time on my hands today.
In the beginning there was the command line.

Anyone else having taskbar issues after this update? My quick launch bar is taking up the entire taskbar on restarts.

Vista, I presume?

Nope, sorry. Can't help you there.

So you're saying changing it manually doesn't stick after a reboot? Perhaps you should "Lock the taskbar" after resizing.

As IE9 killed IE8 and good old Microsoft has no help on the matter... :flowers:

Does anyone know how to use Firefox to get these updates?

As Internet Explorer is banned in Germany, this should be a great answer.

You should get these updates through Automatic Update. IE is not needed. In Windows XP, you can check for updates manually through IE, but they are still deployed through Auto Updates (which should be turned on).

Kudos for using Firefox, but you can't use it for Windows Updates.
