Hey out there in cyberspace.

I'm new here, but have used Combofix in the past, having downloaded it from bleepingcomputer. I'm impressed with the forum and hope to make it my main reference point.

I don't have 'issues' at the moment, but since I've just updated my WinXP machines to SP3, and just acquired a laptop (new, not re-furbished, Sony-manufactured a couple of years ago) with Vista Business, and having updated that to SP2, I'm about to engage in further updates, such as drivers, etc. of my older machines.

Using Combofix in the past was a bit scary. I followed all the forewarnings about disabling all anti-virus and spyware applications. I'd used it to purge one of my desktops of a treacherous item ... don't remember now exactly what ... and it worked. I then used it to ensure my older laptop was 'clean.' However, that run rendered the (Sony) fingerscan security feature unusable. That was now about 3 months ago. I was in a thick of other 'life' issues (well, I still am) and didn't have the time to try to rectify it. I've since done the SP3 updating and added/deleted much software. I expect that my only recourse now is to attempt to reinstall the original fingerscan security protection suite and its drivers.

All this to say that I suspect I'll be a frequent visitor to this site as I proceed on my relentless learning curve. Onward and Upward!

P.S. I still have an OLD Compaq Presario tower with Win98SE. I'm considering experimenting with shrinking its partition to create a second partition in order to install Ubuntu or one of its offshoots. To be perfectly honest ... I've recognized the onset of an overwhelming feeling within me of being so 'over' everything Microsoft.
