Hi everyone, I've tried about everything I can think of and I finally decided to post to see if someone else could help. My computer has been having BSOD's pretty frequently (40+!!!! in less than a month) since I moved it to another room. It did the same thing before but hadn't crashed in a long time, so I thought I fixed it, then BOOM, started again, worse than ever. Usually it's a driver irql not less or equal error relating to nwifi.sys, but it's been pretty random too. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my wifi card, a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter, but I've tried all the solutions I could find to fix it. I've got the most recent driver from Belkin's site and it's supposed to be compatible with Vista now, but 90% of the time it crashes, I'm on the internet using flash or attempting to access or transfer something over our home network. I use BlueScreenView to look at the crashes when I reboot, and here's an overview of what's happened recently:
-The last 16 crashed have been DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, usually referencing nwifi.sys, but once it was Wdf1000.sys.
-A cluster of 5 before that which didn't say anything in the actual BSOD, but show DRIVER_PAGE_FAULT_IN_FREED_SPECIAL_POOL in BlueScreenView. I *think* these showed up when I started up my computer and it crashed right away a few times.
-The rest before that were pretty inconsistent, and happened at random times. These were before I found the correct driver update for the wifi card.
So here's what I've done so far, not in order because I can't really remember what I did when
-Ran the computer offline, seemed fine
-Installed updated driver from Belkin
-Cleaned my tower
-Checked my memory (memtest 86+, Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, physically inspecting them and making sure they are properly seated)
-Cleared off some space on my hdd, and ran chkdsk on my main partition and data partition just to be safe
-Restored from a point before I moved the computer, fixed the startup crashes mentioned above
-Uninstalled Threatfire (supplementary AV that's supposed to play well with others; I thought it might be causing problems and I didn't think I needed it anyway)
-Uninstalled Firefox (when I thought it might have to do with my memory, and it was using a LOT)
And finally, here's some info about my computer:
-Acer Aspire T180
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.3GHz
-Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, SP2
-Avast! for AV, Comodo for firewall
Please help! I feel like I've tried everything and I don't have the option of using a wired connection because of where I have to keep my computer. The only other thing I can think of is that something is wrong with my usb ports, but I'm not sure how to go about checking or fixing that. I have most of the minidump files since this all started, but I don't know how to post them so if someone could explain, I can post a few to look at. Thank you!
