Approx 6 months ago my system crashed due to a virus. I took it into a repair store where they were able to wipe
the virus but I lost much of my XP and HP software. They advised to contact HP for recovery discs for XP and HP.
I have spent 2 months with HP trying to get the system restore discs. After speaking with 7-8 customer service reps
(and buying the recovery discs for professional xp, not the Home Edition I have) I have been told by HP that
they stop sending the original discs with the purchase of the computer and that they did not start partitioning the
recovery until 7-8 months after my computer purchase. HP says they no longer have any XP recovery disc in inventory
and they recommended I check local computer stores for a generic recovery disc. I have not been able to able to
find any at the local computer software stores or computer repair stores. I do have use of some XP software.
such as windows tour and tourtatorial, control panel with some applications still in them, word pad and a few
My system is a HP pavilion a1350y. and I have the key code for my XP.
-Any ideas where I could find a generic XP recovery disc?
-I have found a few Windows XP Home Addition install disc, but they are over $160. would just reinstalling a new
XP disc work?
-Could I buy windows 7 and just replace windows xp? (since they are nearly the same price. HP service said that
would not work, but i don't understand why?)
-any other options?
