original thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic352100.html

Last night I apparently ran afoul of some viruses/malware. I had a fake antivirus-scanner popup and I could not open anything on the computer. Eventually got Malwarebytes running by renaming it and reinstalling it, and got Norton running. Both found and removed TONS of virus files. But after the restart I still had the popup and couldn't open anything (firefox, etc). I couldn't update malwarebytes so I had to get a friend to send me the latest rule definition file to help update it since I couldn't connect to the internet, and then when I ran it again it found rootkits and more viruses. Then when it rebooted the popup was finally gone and I could open programs. The comp ran ok for a little while, then I decided to scan again to make sure there wasn't more, and it crashed in the middle of it, BSOD.

I ran malwarebytes again and got nothing. I downloaded and ran ad-aware and got 13 more viruses and removed them. I started up and scanned again with both adaware and norton, they found nothing. But then after i restarted because it was running slowly I got BSOD again, as soon as i tried to open outlook.

error:

BCCode: 10000050 BCP : BA72C000 BCP2: 000000 BCP3: B9E99CCB
BCP4: 0000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product 256_1

and files

C:docume~1xxxlocals~1TempWER02d4.dir00mini100610-01.dmp
..........................................................................sysdata.xml

My browser also appeared to still be hijacked, clicking on links from google either landed me on blank pages or redirected to other pages.

I ran malwarebytes again and picked up more infection (C:windowssystem32driversfejnkzkm.sys, which i believe is the file name that appeared on the BSOD).

After restart, again an error. 2 files in tempWERe7a4.dir00svchost.exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt

Ran ad-aware AGAIN - yet another virus! trojan.win32.generic.pak!cobra.

Ran Combofix - found rootkit activity.

Comp restarted with no errors, but browser was still hijacked.

Ran TDSSKiller and it found some kind of rootkit named Redbook. After removal I *think* the browser issue is gone. I've clicked on about 15-20 links in google and no redirecting yet.

However I am sure this machine is not clean in the slightest. What else can I do?!

I tried to run the scanners I was directed to in my previous thread, but after about 2 hours of scanning my system crashed (BSOD) before the GMER scan finished!

I am re-running the scan now, and for some reason can already see that 2 things that were in red in the previous scan and referenced rootkits (Redbook being one of them, which is what I found before), were not found this time when it scanned through that area?

EDIT - have added a gmer log but it's not complete. I stopped it before it finished, but what is on it now is what was there when it crashed 2 hours into the scan last time.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

File::
c:\windows\system32\noisev.dll
c:\windows\Ktiyeyuzubizebuf.bin

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\Pam\Local Settings\Application Data\{BB9DA2B2-F9B8-42B0-8F33-FD10F3292349}

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Ran it, unfortunately fell asleep during it, and when I woke up it was done, the screen said the log was saved etc, but the comp was crashed. Error message was showing saying dumphive something had to close, nothing at all was open on the computer, just the desktop background and no other icons or anything anywhere else, and upon restart I can't find the log anywhere

Hello

I would ike to see a report that combofix makes.

extra combofix report

  • push the "windows key" + "R" (between the "Ctrl" button and "Alt" Button)
  • please copy and past the following into the box
C:\ComboFix.txt
  • click ok

copy and paste the report into this topic for me to review

If no log pops up means it did not finish and rerun it for me
