Hi Guys,

Firstly, thanks for being here. Until last week I had never heard of you and a colleugue suggested I use Combofix and you all have appeared along with it! Thanks, anyway.

Right, the problem is that I don't know exactly what the problem is.....! My pc has Avira Anti-Virus, paid for full installation, and up-to date every day. I also run SpyBot and MBAM, both up-to-date and run every week, usually on a Sunday when I can walk away and let them run themselves.

Nothing has showed up on them today when I ran them.

The reason for my concern is that my pc has been running slower than normal, noticeably so in the past week. It is a powerfull hand-built (by an IT Guy) piece of kit that I have used for the past 18 months with absolutely no problem - it's faster than I can think most of the time..!

This afternoon, I was using Outlook and typing an email when I looked up and found half of the words missing, the letters were there but the first 2/3 and the last 2/3 were missing (I type head down so I didn't spot it straight away) Weird, I thought. Then I deliberately changed the batteries in my wireless keyboard but it continued behaving erratically. I would attempt to type but the cursor would not produce the letter. I would hit the key 6 times and finally a letter would appear, then I would commence to type and only some of the letters would appear. Weirder and weirder.

At this point I noticed that just about everything was running slow; opening an internet browser (I use IE8 + Safari + Google Chrome - depending on what I'm doing at the time) and I noticed that they were sort of hanging around when opening, not fast at all, and closing them, they were a lot slower than I'm used to. They were also 'hanging' whilst surfing, being very slow to open sites (IE8 certainly is anyway which is why I use the other two - they are both lightening fast compared to IE8)

So, to cut a long story short, as I had the spare time and as I was so concerned, I downloaded combofix and ran it. I did this after running all the other anti-virus as listed above.

I have the results - the log - but havn't a clue what it's telling me.

Can someone please take a look at the log and tell me if there is anything there that I need to take care of..??

One thing I can tell you is that after running combofix my pc appears to be back to normal (Yippee!!) I'm typing this as fast as I can and all is well, my wireless internet came back no problem as did all the other systems, so I don't think there is any residual problem, but I cannot be sure.

I have attached the log with this post (I hope thats correct??)

Best Regards,

SEAWINGS

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log
