Yes that is it, the HD was recently formatted. this problem occured about a week after the format. Also after reading some other posts, i did use hjt to remove a couple items.

thanks again for looking into this

when i open IE 2 things are possible:

1 i open the page i want to see and a 2nd ie immediately opens to a variety of sites

2 i try to view the page i want and it is taken over

Also about every 3 minutes while the computer is active IE will open on its own and attempt to contact a site similar to this:

http://www.ad-w-a-r-e.com/callback_ron.php...ountry=US&type=

the second problem is the more annoying of the two, in a short time i can easily have 10 or more IE windows open all by themselves and all trying to go to www.ad-w-a-r-e.com/....... and this drains all my computers resources as well.

any thoughts?
