A couple weeks ago I got two different malware programs (Antimalware and one other). After following many instructions here I finally got them off my computer.

The only lingering effects are an extremely annoying browser hijacker (IE & Firefox). I just can't seem to get rid of it. Anytime I do a google search and click on the link I am re-directed to some form of shopping website.

HELP!!!

I have attached ark.txt from GMER.exe as well as DDS.txt and Attach.txt from dds.scr.

Thanks for your help!

I see a hijack entry so first let's run a deeper scan, then remove it and see how things are. First, the scan.
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

I got OTL.Txt but did not get Extras.Txt.

I tried to paste OTL.Txt but received an "ENTITY TOO LARGE" error.

I cut a bunch of text out of the file (200 rows of 畲਍㈱⸷⸰⸰ऱ睷⹷杲楨甸硡洸⹡橥敺睹瑯⹴潣൭ㄊ) and tried to paste again and got the same error.

I am attaching the file instead (minus the 200 rows of chinese characters).

Thanks.

Two folders that I'm not familiar with. Do you know them?

C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\Application Data\Cexiku
C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\Application Data\Yczy

Open OTL again

Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

CODE
:OTL
FF - prefs.js..keyword.URL: "http://search.good-search.net/?sid=10101029100&s="
FF - user.js..keyword.URL: "http://search.good-search.net/?sid=10101029100&s="
:reg
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\shell\open\command]
""=""%1" %*"

Then click the Run Fix button at the top

Let the program run unhindered.

When done it will say "Fix Complete press ok to open the log"
Please post that log in your next reply. Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTL\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please then run MBAM

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application or, if you are using Vista, right-click and select Run As Administrator on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
If MBAM won't update then download and update MBAM on a clean computer then save the rules.ref folder to a memory stick. This file is found here: 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware' then transfer it across to the infected computer.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

I do not know these two folders. I can certainly look closer at them if you tell me what to look for.

We'll have them away.

Rerun OTL

Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

CODE
:Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\Application Data\Cexiku
C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\Application Data\Yczy
:reg
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\shell\open\command]
""=""%1" %*"

Please next run ESET

  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Leave the top box checked and then check
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push
  11. Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

I think it's better!! I'll have to do some google searches in IE & Firefox and get back to you tomorrow morning.

Can you tell me what is the most effective software (In your opinion of course) at stopping Malware and these hijackers from ever getting in? It would be well worth $25 or $50 rather than spending hours upon hours trying to get rid of stuff like Antimalware Doctor and similar. I don't have the premium version of Anti-Malwarebytes, but I think that's the way I was leaning.

Thank you so much for all you guys do. I will be making a donation tomorrow. Can you give me a link for that?

I have some recommendations in the final instructions which cover all these things. Feel free to ask any questions after that.
