Hi all,

I while ago I dropped my compaq presario f700 laptop and cracked the lcd screen rendering it unreadable.
No biggie at first, as I just hooked it up to my TV with an s-video cable and was running it that way with no troubles.
I'm running windows 7 ultimate.

Now here comes the troubles:

I can't switch over to the external monitor until it boots up to at least the log in screen. Usually, I just wait a few minutes before switching the displays.
One morning though, my computer got unusually quiet after a short period during boot up (20 seconds or less) and never seemed to get to the log on screen.

Since I can't see anything, I have no idea what's going on. Is there any way to be able to run an external monitor during the boot up process?
Or, is anyone familiar with boot issues or external monitor issues with this particular laptop?

The only things I've been able to figure out to try are basically pressing enter a few times at a certain point and continuing to wait for boot up.
The reason behind this being that if I had shut it down improperly, then it could be waiting on input from me to boot regularly or in safe mode.

I'm really at a loss here, any suggestions are appreciated.

Of course, a new screen is in the budget, but it's a little low on the priority list (I'm just sharing a computer as of now).

Thank you,

Marshall
