Of course not

No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.

DaChew

Thanks

A computer repair shop left a disk in my computer CD-ROM

Are they allowed to use it or should I just destroy it or return it?

I googled it but it seemed fairly complicated ...sorry to seem so stupid

They might have used it to repair your OS, but the only thing I would really worry about, are you legal or did they install a pirated version of XP and make you an accomplice?

Also...since it's not your property...you should return it whether legal or not, IMO.

I am going to call MS and get their advise

My Genuine Version test failed in Windows Updates

My Original version was fine before these clowns got to my computer

Thank you both for your help

It ran from the bad shop but I was stuck @ SP2 for updates

Yes ..I even have the CD....it is an older computer that I bought from a shop that went out of business

I used it for over 6 years with no problem...then it got a cannot find boot manager error Ctrl/Alt/Del error and would not boot to the CD to reinstall windows

The option to hit any key was there but it still would not get past the error...so I took it to another shop....they said it was mechanically damaged and was trash

My friend tried a different PS2 keyboard and has since updated the computer with the valid code

It is fine now

BTW: MS did not seem to be concerned and tried to sell me Win7

I had a friend take it to the first shop...I am elderly....so I gave him the disk to return
(I agree with hamluis and do not keep things that are not mine)

I won't bother you people anymore...sorry

You have a great site and are always helpful....I am babbling...I used to be able to help others with computers but I am not as lucid anymore...again thanks and I am sorry to have bothered you

I still think it is a disgusting way to run a bussiness...because we all suffer and most people pay for it in the long run
Most people pay for the license and are honest...thanks again

No need to reply...I have bothered you enough

Edited: tried to for spelling
