This service appeared about 2 weeks ago, shortly after my install of SP2. I could never find any info til today when I ran PsService from sysinternals and although it shows it installed as a service, there isn't much other information there.

Here's the portion that pertains to this Cpqartqgnrsw service:

PsService v1.1 - local and remote services viewer/controller
Copyright 2001-2003 Mark Russinovich
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com

SERVICE_NAME: Cpqartqgnrsw
(null)
TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
START_TYPE : 4 DISABLED
ERROR_CONTROL : 0 IGNORE
BINARY_PATH_NAME :
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP : Network
TAG : 1
DISPLAY_NAME : Cpqartqgnrsw
DEPENDENCIES :
SERVICE_START_NAME:

I've just ran both SB S&D and Ad-AwareSE and found nothing that looked like it may be related to this.

I'll post my HJT log and I also ran a startup list but won't post that unless it's needed.
I tried to figure this out by myself by reading the HJT tutorial and I think I found 2/3 problems but I'm just too new to this to take action without some help.

Thats definitely not normal. It may, though, be a leftover service from a failed uninstall.

Click on start, then run, and type cmd and press the ok button

Then type the following:

sc delete Cpqartqgnrsw

and press enter. That should get rid of the service.

Fix these with hijackthis:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

Reboot and post a new log. Also is anything happening other than that weird service entry?

I also had a look at my startup list and saw a few things there that I thought were kinky, specifically the Klif entry in the Enumerating XP Services section. Did a few google searches and per a few sites, did a registry search for associated entries but found none so I'm not sure if it's a virus or not. I've been running NAV for a few years and recently switched to Kaspersky. Neither has ever found anything. Also ran SB S&D, Ad-Aware SE yesterday, and TDS 3 this a.m. and it isn't finding anything. I think I may just be on information overload????

Thanks for your time with this!

Nothing else specific is happening...I'm still recovering from installing IIS and not knowing what I was doing re: hardening and I think that's when I got this CRAP. I have a few ports open that I'm not comfortable with and am currently struggling to understand them but I'm getting there:)

I found that SGuard is the Startup Guard from System Mechanic, klmc.sys is for Kaspersky Lab Mail Checker, klpf.sys if for Kaspersky Lab Anti-Hacker and I've sent the other 2 to your yahoo addy.
They both appear to be Kaspersky Lab also but do look a bit suspicious from the properties.

Thanks so much for your help...it's very appreciated.
