My father in law dropped off his computer and it was infected with the win32:patched-rp trojan which attached itself to a number of files, avast cleaned most but not explorer.exe or winlogon.exe

I was able to remove the infected files and expand new ones off the sp2 extracted directory, winlogon works as expected but explorer.exe will only run while in safemode attempting to run it in normal startup causes a "access is denied" error.

I've about ran out of things to try to get this computer going so if you have any insight on what I should try next that would be appreciated.
