Intel i7 950 Eight core?

I just upgraded my computer to have a i7 950 CPU and according to task manager this supposed quad core CPU has eight. is that normal for the i7? I tested Hyper pi on it and all 8 responded to it. whats going on?

CPU = Intel i7 950
Motherboard = Asus P6X58D
RAM = Corsair XMS3 DDR3 6X 2GB
Power Supply = Corsair AX1200W
Graphics Card = GTX 580 2-way SLI

hi, Im no expert but its 4 cores and 8 threads ,2 threads per core .or so i thought ,as was assured when i googled your cpu .Hyper threading is a virtual processors or something to that affect
