So my brother bought a computer a little over a year ago. I went over and got him all set up with it, made sure he had the requisite antivirus program and several antimalware programs, even gave him a little tutorial on updating and running them every few days or so. I am a broke college student and so getting to set up a new computer is always fun. I have not had a new computer in 8 years!

Fast forward about a year and my brother ups sticks and moves back with the folks to start saving for a house. Folks have several computers, so he gives me his! When I got all excited he goes, "Uhhh, yeahhhhhhh... about this computer..."

Did he keep his antivirus up to date? No. Did he update and run the antimalware programs? No, and no. Did he surf dubious websites? Oh, yes! Did he click "OK" without reading the dialog box a few times? Yes, ma'am! Not to mention he is an avid downloader of various media from BitTorrent and "some other site, I'm not sure which ones..."

So the long and short of it is, if I can salvage it from whatever demonware it has on it, I have a new computer! And I do not say demonware lightly. I've fixed my own computer and several others after they've been infested/infected, but this one is bad. I am posting this message from the Guest account because the main one basically just shuts down and reboots when I log into it. Also, guess wasn't around 8 years ago? VISTA! All the tricks I know I learned while using XP, so this is a whole new ball game.

I'm excited and can't wait to meet all you geniuses who are going to help me get a new (to me) computer!
