I just bought a Hp Personal Media Drive 1TB for file storage. I want to use the drive exclusively for storage but I'd rather not have to hassle myself once a week to copy my files over from my primary drive. I'm not sure if a RAID 1 is an option, but it would be nice. And I don't know if I should partition the new drive.

Any thought?

There are a number of programs out there which will automatically update your files to an external hdd.

There are several on this page.

One example is PCTool's Simple-Backup 3.0.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
