I managed to finally get fear to "run" by disabling sound with the launching utility, but who wants to play the game without sound?

How do I fix this?

I have a sound blaster live card. It seems to work fine when I play mp3s etc.

Tried updating your soundcard drivers? How far do you get with sound turned on before you get to the blackscreen?

Also update your video drivers. If possible, use the WHQL certified drivers as they're certified, by Microsoft, work with Windows.
