Have you installed anything over the past few days, software or hardware?

I'm thinking perhaps it's a hardware problem. Try removing some hardware - mouse, keyboard etc and see if the problem persists.

Other than that, it could be a hard drive problem which if you have important data on it, could be bad. It might fail completely in the near future.

Do you have an official XP CD, or perhaps a CD with your operating system on it from the manufacturer?

You could try running the recovery console off that.

That's one of the downfalls of the system restore, if you have made any downloads after the date you chose to restore to you will lose that download.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

If you can try running chkdsk c: /f

Go to Start, click on Run, and type cmd in the box and then click OK.

A black page will open with a blinking cursor, type in the chkdsk command that you wish to run and then strike the enter key.

Chkdsk /f will fix errors it encounters in the operating system.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
