Long story short, I leave my laptop on with the lid closed as I sleep but when as of the past several days I find myself staring at the logon screen in the morning. Upon logging in I get the "restart due to a crash caused by an unexpected error" message. Every. Time. And upon all restarts and logins, I get a "stopped working" error from Windows Media Player Encoder Helper, a program I don't ever use or remember installing.

Let's start with disabling WMP related startup.
Re-run Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab and UN-check:
"WMPNSCFG" "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Configuration Application" "Microsoft Corporation" "c:\program files\windows media player\wmpnscfg.exe"
Restart computer.

However, if you need the above startup, because...

A program associated with Windows Media Player. According to this technote, wmpnscfg.exe is used to alert users when a new media device is found on the network. Wmpnscfg is also responsible for starting the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (NSS) and then waits for notifications from the service. When wmpnscfg is notified that a new media device is available on the network, it displays a popup in the system tray that informs the user about the availability of the new device. If the user clicks the popup, wmpnscfg launches Windows Media Player, which displays a dialog box that asks the user to either allow or deny sharing with the new device.

I loaded up Autoruns and went to the Logon tab however, it seems that WMPNSCNFG has already been unchecked. Went to the last link posted and followed the instructions. Hopefully I won't get to see my computer freeze for 2 minutes followed by a sudden restart after today.

This may be unrelated but as of recently whatever I would have as my active window, will stop and become an inactive window. Like say while typing this post I had to click on this window several times just to keep typing. Actually, even icons I have selected become deselected.

This morning I wake up to find a "Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" message, but no crash/restart. I also noticed my keyboard automatically switching between its key illumination modes, which was fixed upon disconnecting/reconnecting the keyboard.
