Hi,

My windows update is continually trying to install Security Update KB981322. The installation runs, says it is completed and then tries to install again. I have tried rebooting with no success. Has anyone else encoutered this or could offer any advise??
I am running XP Professional SP3.

My personal observation is that this seems to happen with some systems and updates...I attribute it as another Windows Update hiccup.

It seems to resolve itself, so I don't worry about it.

Last month, some critical updates came out related to MS.NET. I have two systems...on one system, they installed with no problem, while on the other...the same pattern that you depict occurred.

I cannot explain it, but it corrected itself.

There was a time when you could manually download and install such, but Microsoft seems to have ended that.

Try downloading the hotfix installer from microsoft downloads:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB981322)

And try to install it from safe mode if it fails in normal mode windows.

I'm assuming you are using 32bit XP. For other XP Versions, click here.

Couple more options....
1. Download standalone file: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/deta...29-3bad1224006a and try to install it from Safe Mode.
2. MS provides free support for this type of update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981322
