On an XP home computer, in the past few weeks an annoying thing started happening. When I double click on a folder on the desktop, a window pops up saying Search Settings v1.2.3 Please Wait while Windows configures search settings. I click cancel etc but it takes up to a minute to go away and is a real pain.

I've run Malwarebytes in normal and safe mode.
I've run SpyBot.
I've run Adaware, normal and safe mode.
I've got Symantec Corporate antivirus running on the computer, daily update and scan.

Anyone run into this, and more important, how to get rid of it? My wife's sanity (and therefore mine) is hanging on the answer!

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

Search Settings v1.2.3 is a spyware/malware toolbar infection. Please go to the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum and follow the preparation instructions link toward the top of the page.
