Wifi adapter

I have a desktop and a apple iphone

Is the wifi adapter all I need to create a wifi hotspot so that I can get wirelessly online with my iphone?

I don't know for sure. All that I do know is that my PC doesn't have a WIFI adapter. But after installing the newest software version 4 and enabling WIFI on the iPhone, I now have WIFI access called "Jigs" whenever I am near my PC. I suspect that it is using my FIOS router's wireless for this.
