I use NetMeter to monitor my Internet usage.
When I use my laptop and I close the lid but leaving my account logged in, NetMeter says I used A LOT.
I left it for 2 hours once while it was logged in(lid closed), and it recorded 250MB.
I left it logged in overnight and when I woke up it said I used 950MB.
Is it a false reading or is it true?
Also, what makes it elevate so high for?

The 2 most common causes are; malware, and Microsoft Updates.

Go ahead and scan with your anti virus of choice, and see if anything is found. The "950MB" overnight makes me think its updates though. Because malware tends to want to transmit constantly, not mostly at night(but anything is possible, don't eliminate it being malware because of this).
