Morning All,

This is my first post/request for help. Please bare with me as I'm pretty useless on a computer. I have recently noticed "Ab1.exe" appear in my task managers processes and everything I've found on google to help remove it, has been useless. Also getting alot of redirect as of late. Please find below my Hijack This Log.

I'm currently running on XP Pro; Ad-Aware, Malware Bytes and Microsoft Essentials. None of these appear to be fixing the issue. Any help with removing this and any other issue will be greatly appreciated. I'm sure any of you who not what you are doing will find many an issue on this comp, in which I blame my brother inlaw and his extra curricular activites when we're at work. whistling.gif

Cheers,
Dibbs

EDIT: Sorry guys, not finished yet. Pressed enter by mistake. Will update shortly

Hi All,

Computer has recenlty been playing up. A lot of issues will be found here. I've followed all the requirements as per the instructions p[age. Can someone please check them out and help me clean this as much as possible? Have run scans with Ad-Aware, Miscrosoft Essentials & Malwarebytes previously. All have come back with a couple of items; however nothing has changed. Still being redirected and have found something called Ab1.exe in my taask manager which is taking up a heap of space. DDS Logs Below.

Cheers In Advance,
Dibbs

NEW EDIT/UPDATE: NOW I'M GETTING ADS THROUGH THE SPEAKERS. NO WINDOWS OPEN OR ANYTHING!!!!! WAS JUST WATCHING TV AND SUDDENLY MY COMPUTER WAS TELLING ME A CAN GET LONG LIFE BATTERIES. WTF????? THIS IS BULLCRAP... I NEED HELP NOW OR DELETE THIS POST COMPLETELY.

EDIT: Now getting random voices through my speakers along with a dog barking and music in the background. Lasted for approx 30 seconds and then cut out.

Hey Guys,

I completely understand that it takes a bit to get through all of the posts, but I really need to get this sorted shortly. I start my business next week (thanks to a great phone call today) and need to ensure that my clients info is stored on a safe computer. My laptop is currently full of all the files I need, and if nothing comes shortly, I'll just take this into a shop and have them wipe and reinstall everything. Really broke/poor at the moment so it's money I don't have; but this is important now.

Cheers,
Dibbs

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    activex

  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Hi myrti,

Thank you for your reply.

I ended up having to do my business on a my laptop which I've now saved elsewhere. It's a legal requirement I keep the clients info quiet, hence my desperation. Couldn't risk telling the client I can't do it, cause my computer is messing up.

Initial issue (ab1.exe) appears to have fixed itself since downloading spybot; however I'm sure there are still many issues. If you could please have a look it'd be great, as I will need to do my business on here eventually.

Hi,

please run a scan with Rootkit Unhooker next:
Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your Desktop
  • Double-click on RKUnhookerLE to run it
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan
  • Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest
  • Click OK
  • Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report
  • Save the report to your Desktop
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get this warning it is ok, just ignore

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

There are some leftovers in your log, but nothing active.

Hi,

you have been infected by a nasty rootkit. It is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do.

If you decide to clean, then please run ComboFix and post the log in your next reply:

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Temporarily disable isable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
Usually this can be done via a right click on the System Tray icon, check this tutorial for disabling the most common security programs: Link

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Good Morning Myrti,

Thanks for the response. I have decided I'll simply remove this PC from the net and have the OS reinstalled. With that said, I may even just buy a new PC entirely. Thanks for your help.
