HJT Log at bottom, please look at it as I'm not 100% sure what's on my system. Need help manually removing this from Vista. Am willing to uninstall almost everything. (Feel free to submit suggestions as to what to uninstall.)

I have two computers here, one which finished having the trojan install. (XP) which I'm not allowed to fix but am using to post. The desktop isn't mine and I'm having a hard time convincing the owner that it is infected at all.

My laptop, which hasn't been connected to the internet since it's infection, will likely need to be cleaned manually before being connected to the net, or the infection will progress to the point that I cannot remove it.

This trojan is rather annoying, and it's infection of my computer actually made it work BETTER (it fixed my DVD Burner), though this makes me worry that it switched out the CD-ROM driver for one that has a little 'something extra'. Removal will need to be manual or via Checked (CRC and SHA256 checked files).
hxxp://hash.online-convert.com/sha256-generator (This is my new friend).
Transferred via 1.44mb floppy.

I have process explorer, HiJackThis, and Combofix from another computer burned to DVD. I have yet to verify their CRC's and/or SHA256.

I believe the trojan contains (in at least one of it's forms) the AXPack1 toolkit and uses it to install malware. (An encrypted version, unfortunately, or it would be easier to remove). I believe it is one of these toolkits that has infected my computer. I also believe extra users above and beyond myself have been added, which are being logged into by subverted processes on my machine.

I also believe that this particular trojan will be too difficult to remove after I have connected to the internet (because it will finish installing, and finish hiding it's-self, possibly even diminish permission).

Additionally, windows defender is now scanning my computer periodically, it wasn't doing this before. c.c; At least not that I've seen. I hope it's a legitimate one.

I have unlocker installed and so should be able to delete or modify anything, once I can verify the sha256 and crc, combofix, hijackthis, and process explorer from sysinternals. I took the risk with HiJackthis... even though I just realized I verified the CRC on an infected machine which would alter the CRC accordingly. XD

The install onto my PDA was fairly impressive, I got to watch part of it by checking through the files... until it reset and left it's-self in control of my pda. I also believe it wrote it's-self into the firmware.

Processes are listening on ports on the XP machine (netstat -ano). explorer.exe, chrome, system idle, System, avgnsx, avgemc. (Not sure if this is normal.)

On the XP machine... firewall is on... don't allow exceptions is checked.
Firefox, Iexplorer, and Chrome all work just fine. Isn't the firewall supposed to block them?

I can't reinstall, unfortunately.

EDIT: Posts merged ~BP
- deleted second post, original poster. Additional note: Why are there 0 downloads for my HJT log, isn't that the most relevant part? XD

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    activex
    drivers32
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    symmpi.sys
    adp3132.sys
    mv61xx.sys
    nvraid.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /90
  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Hi,

please also run a rootkit scan with either gmer or rootkit unhooker:

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.

Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your Desktop
  • Double-click on RKUnhookerLE to run it
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan
  • Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest
  • Click OK
  • Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report
  • Save the report to your Desktop
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get this warning it is ok, just ignore

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

The reason your Hijackthis log was so unpopular is that the tool is out of date, terribly out of date. It is missing many locations from which malware will usually launch itself and has since been replaced with other tools such as OTL or DDS.

GMER.exe had Blue Screen of Death on each run through the file system scan.
Culprit might have been klgcapow.sys (could only see on screen for a moment.)
