We recently got an ipad. We really like this device but are very frustrated that we cannot use a usb flashdrive even with the camera connection kit.

I found information in many different places online about a method to make it so our ipad would be able to read a usb flashdrive. This method involves jailbreaking the ipad. After reading about jailbreaking, I have found that it is usually safe, and will allow a third party application- called Cydia to be downloaded on the ipad, which then allows the ipad to read flash drives.

So, I tried to use spirit.com which is an application that will jailbreak my ipad, but it will then say that my ipad with 3.2.2 firmware is not compatible with spirit- because my ipad is too new? Or has too new of an update? but now because of that, my ipad at this time cannot be jailbroken.

Does anyone know if there is some way I could get past this issue and still get my ipad jailbroken?

Currently that version of OS cannot be jailbroken from everything I can find with Google. Doesn't mean it can't be done. Just that I haven't googled anything to assist with it.

At this point I don't think (atleast from what I have heard and Seen) there will not be a jailbreak for that version, I would be willing to bet there will be one for the next release of IOS for ipad which comes in October or November. And when that update comes out there isnt really any reason to jailbreak it except for your reasons.

I read recently that the new exploit for 4+ will work with 3.2.2. It appears as of the last day or two that it's not out yet. You can always downgrade to 3.2.1 if you want. There's lots of instructions out there on how to do that based on a quick Google. I don't know which iPad forums are best so I won't offer up a link.

If I don't respond within 2 days, please feel free to PM me.

3.2.2 is jailbroken.

browse to http://limera1n.com/ download your version and just follow the instructions. You have to flex your nintendo muscle and hold the home/sleep buttons in a simple combination to put the device into dfu mode.

You're pretty much SOL if you want to rollback to a previous version unless you have the shshblobs for it registered on cydia. Thankfully you don't have to worry about that since limera1n works like a champ.
