Dadgum Browser Redirects!!!

I am getting redirecting over 1/2 the time I attempt to search or just about anything. Happening with both Firefox and IE. I run Norton 360, Windows Defender, and AdAware.

At one time, I ran MalWareBytes and SuperAntiSpware but for some reason, neother will run any more. I even re-downloaded them and can't get themto start up.

Below is a log file from HiJackThis. Can anyone take a look and help me here. I'd be so very grateful. Note - I am a bit of a novice so please be patient with me.

Hello bocephus1956,

Please avoid installing/uninstalling or updating any programs and attempting any unsupervised fixes or scans. This can make helping you impossible.


I (as well as MicroSoft, McAfee and Symantec) recommend that you DO NOT have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time.

The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms".

It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.

In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:

1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove one of these.
Microsoft Security Essentials, or Norton 360.

I see you are running Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 2.
Beta software is full of bugs, so I highly recommend you uninstall the Beta version and install Mozilla Firefox 3.6.10 .

I strongly suggest that you uninstall Ask Toolbar. Some of the bad practices of this toolbar are:
  1. Promoting its toolbars on sites targeted to kids. Details.
  2. Promoting its toolbars through ads that appear to be part of other companies' sites. Details.
  3. Promoting its toolbars through other companies' spyware. Details.
  4. Installing without any disclosure whatsoever and without any consent whatsoever. Details.
  5. Soliciting installations via "deceptive door openers" that do not accurately describe the offer; failing to affirmatively show a license agreement; linking to a EULA via an off-screen link. Details.
  6. Making confusing changes to users' browsers -- increasing Ask's revenues while taking users to pages they didn't intend to visit. Details.
Plesae read the full details HERE.

If you decided to remove Ask Toolbar. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and remove Ask Toolbar.

Then go to C: > Program Files and delete Ask Toolbar folder.

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.

See if you can run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in the Safe Mode with Networking.

tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode with Networking" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.


* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.

* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire MBAM report (even if it does not find anything) in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Reboot your computer, post a new Hijackthis log, SecurityCheck log, Malwarebytes log, and tell me how your computer is running.
