Hello. I have tried several different methods to try and remove both virtumonde and winfixer (are they the same thing? I have no idea) I have tried a few generic and a few automatic fixes, but nothing has worked. Either the file is unable to be deleted because it is being used by a process, or install (or tries to, thankfully spysweeper is keeping it at bay) at the next logon. Attached is my HJT log. Please help. Thank you in advance.

I think that did the trick. After letting spysweeper scan everything, I rebooted since it found something in memory and then ran HJT. It found the 3 items that winfixer installed (BHO, WInlogon, and winfixer exe file), removed them and scanned again and they are gone. Will post the new HJT log and the spysweeper session log seperately (it's huge!). Thanks again for all your help.

I hosted the Spysweeper session log since it's way too large to fit into even a few text windows. (4.31 MB)

I am so sorry about the delays!

SpySweeper is saying the Hosts File is infected.

Lets have a closer look.

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Restart Normal and Open HijackThis>Click Config>Click Misc Tools>Click Open Hosts File Manager>Click Open in Notepad>Copy&Paste the entire Contents of that Notepad Page to your Next Post

Post the results of WinPFind and the Host file search.

Sorry for the delay, really havent gotten to this computer lately.

Ok, ran the file you specified and posted the log below. As for the hosts file, it is blank when I look in HJT and when I open the file. What now?

Again, thank you for all your help. I feel that we almost have this beat!
Jeff

Allright,lets get you cleaned up.

If you dont use the program Wild Tangent for gaming purposes, then please remove it from Add\Remove Programs,it does no more than just clutter a PC.

Make sure Windows is Showing Hidden Files
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/...al62.html#winxp

Locate and Delete these 2 files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttvwa.bak2

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttvwa.ini

Now,Copy the text below to a blank Notepad page and Save it to the Desktop as Clr.reg

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform]
"SV1"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved]
"{B436F818-67FF-4586-8829-8FCA15051F21}"=-

Double Click Clr.reg and allow it to merge into the registry.

Please Install these 2 to add to the Security of the PC!

SpywareBlaster:

Update Immediatly!

WinHelp2002 Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm

Nothing but l2m leftovers in Killbox folder which can be deleted.

The Weatherbug installation from AIM is no big worry either!

Go ahead and Renable System Restore and restart the PC,this will clear out all old nasty restore points and create a nice new fresh clean one for you to fall back on should you ever need it.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us!
