I have been given a flash disk to see if I can recover data from it.

The person who used the disk uses Vista Home, I'm using a laptop running Windows 7 Home.

When I insert the disk a message pops up saying, "You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it."

If I run Getdataback for FAT and scan the disk it brings up the following information:

Error: NotifyException

Error Unknown error [87] while reading sector 64 on drive F:
Info: FAT:28
Address 004D6204

Stack dump

Does this mean anything to anyone? What do I do?

Thanks for any help.

The flash drive could be dead.

You could try Testdisk

Or I've found that Slax sometimes can access drives that windows chooses not to
