I am for lack of better words, . . Jury-Rigging a Dell Dimensions 2350, (Desk Top), loading a fairly new Dell Laptop OS, on top of a Dell SP1 from a different older model Laptop, upgrading from a WXP upgrade to SP2. . .

The OS is running and have connected to the Internet, but the Device Manager shows the need of drivers for OTHER ? , . . These are Ethernet Controller, . . Multimedia Controller, . .Video Controller,

The modem Icon is in yellow but there are no Yellow symbols such as question marks, etc. I not sure what that means, .

There are 55 files regarding DELL driver D/L's,

I'm not sure what to choose, . .

Can you assist me, ? Please !

Say again, please. I didn't understand a word, what exactly you did.

Go to Dell's site, enter your computer service tag number and get your drivers. Start with chipset driver.

Part of the Answer to this is here;

http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/lo...A256E95003048A6

As I do not have Ethernet use on this model, apparently it is built into the OS, I downloaded, but it seems my major problem is the resolution or discoloration problem, therefore not sure if it is a fault of the Monitor or Monitor settings or in fact the drives previously mentioned ?

I think I'll opt to D/L a couple, as I don't think it will hurt, but there is an order that DELL reccommends,

I started with the DELL Dimension 2350 which had a Dell Wxp sp1 and I then upgraded it to WSP2 so that I could load in the new DELL SP3,, . . it was not made for this model, . . however it loaded, you can read my last post, . . ref. Monitor, . . but I will do the chipset, as that was what I was about to do, . .

Thanks, . . Broni

Yep the DELL Desktop is locked up and waiting for the Activation Info, so, . .

I received another letter from DELL after requesting information on the Previous owner,

before then send me a WHP-sp3 CD

this I can get but that is a bit of a Pain, . .

I have two questions here, if I can legitimately use a borrowed CD to install on the old dell than why is MS rejecting me, . .

I could get another old DELL laptop, which needs repair, and whose owner information is readily

available to satisfy DELL, . . would that be within the guide lines ?

Well...who said that you could legitimately...use CDs which have been created for one specific system...on a different system...successfully?

Dell disks may be restore/recovery disks or they may be reinstallation disks...or they may be the equivalent of XP install disks. Dell has put out all three over the last 10 years, depending on the model of the system. Not all Dell disks are created equal.

But, . . here is the email I received from DELL, . . .

As I have checked the records of this system, yes you can upgrade or use the disc for Windows XP Professional on your DIM8200,2.53,P4N,533,SUPERMAN, but just make sure that you have the product key in case upon reinstallation it would ask for it. If the OS disc won't work on the system, please do contact us so that we will be able to send you a replacement media as a one-time deal only since the system's warranty has already expired last 10/18/2005.

Please do include the following information on your response:
Name (First and Last Name on the account)
Address (Address where the system was originally shipped)
Phone Number (Phone Number of the address where the system was originally shipped, include area code)
Company Name (company on which the system is registered, if applicable)

I think that you better send for the replacement media...that's my opinion. The system cited in that email...is a Dell Dimension 8200...which is not what you have, if I'm understanding correctly.

That's how I see it, I'm wrong quite often and have gotten used to the idea .

It sounds like the key you have isn't for the OS you installed. I would take them up on the offer as replacement media usually runs about $25-40 from an OEM, and it will install the drivers and everything for you.
