Hi

Shiny new laptop with windows 7. Brother MFC-5840CN All in One printer. Seems Never the Twain shall meet. The install disc wont do W7 The install printer wizard cant find the printer. I went to windows updates and the model is not in their list and was redirected to download Bradmin Professional. Rebooted and tried again but no luck. Any ideas ?

Is this the 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?

Edited for content.

You should be able to download the proper drivers from this website. They have drivers for both the 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

hi

Its 32 bit and I downloaded the BRAdmin Professional as directed but it seems to be some kind of network handler which frankly I dont' really understand. When I have searched for a driver to install there doesn't seem to be one. Should I be looking at the Web BRAdmin ?

The Brother website states that the Windows 7 drivers are available through Windows Update and that no download is available through them.
http://www.brother-usa.com/lp/windows7compatibility.aspx

The Windows Update they are referring to is not windowsupdate.microsoft.com but done through the add printer wizard. Screen caps are provided at the bottom of the link.
Last time I did this for someone it took a considerable amount of time but it did work
In the beginning there was the command line.

Windows has a difficult time with Brother software. It seems a bit on the sloppy side. Win 7 became so confused over my MFC-240C that it identified it as a network card. Printers do not make satisfactory internet connections!!
