Hi Crytodan,

I have carried out all the preparation guide steps as requested.

My problem relates to use of Firefox and IE7 redirects. I run XP os. When selecting a search result, instead of going to the website direct I go to another site, often k-directory.

I have run many of the usual malware programs including mbam, adaware, spybot, super antispyware, but nothing registers on any of them. I regularly run CCleaner and have the Normans antivirus and firewall suite.

Here is the DDS.txt log and the Attach.txt and ark.txt files are attached.

Hello RolyG, My name is Syler and I will be helping you to solve your malware issues. Sorry for the delay
in replying, we are very busy at the moment.

Please note because we are very busy, if I don't hear from you within 5 days the topic will be closed, If you

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan (the scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient).
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply .
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following bold text.
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    netsvcs
    msconfig
    drivers32

Hi RolyG,
  • Download kateskiller.zip onto your Desktop.
  • Extract kateskiller.exe onto your desktop
  • Go to your Start menu and click on run...
  • Into the window type:

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\kateskiller.exe" -l "%userprofile%\Desktop\kates.log" -y

  • A black window will open. Once the scan is finished it will display Press any key to continue. Please do so.
  • A log called kates.log should be created on your Desktop, open it and post the content of it in your next reply.

PS: I don't think we were unlucky against united, we are just playing terrible at the moment, hopefully they will turn it around.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed, click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

If you need help, see this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

PS: getting the yanks out would help but they need to make sure they get the rite person\s in this time, who do you support?

Thanks as usual.

PS You are right. With all the debt and the price that is apparently being asked, it is not a great prospect. I am a big sports fan but not really football. Nominally Arsenal as I went to Highbury on a few accoasions in the 90s.

Hi RolyG,

Can you tell me if you are still getting redirected?

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading.
Select Show hidden files and folders.
Then click apply and ok.

Then

Please click this link-->Virustotal
When the Virustotal page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

c:\program files\Folder2Iso_v1.4.exe
c:\program files\RipIt4Me.exe
c:\windows\system32\kbdneprm.dll

Please post back with the link to the scan results, in your next post.
If Virustotal is busy, try the same at Jotti: http://virusscan.jotti.org/

You still have some leftovers from an incomplete uninstallation of Norton security products on your computer.
To remove the leftovers please download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

Note: The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
If you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases before you proceed.

PS I like Arsenal because of the way they play, they might not win much, but I would settle for watching them play.

Hi Syler,

Thanks for the swift response. Here are the reports. The first two seem ok, but the third has been highlighted by several AV progs.

ATTENTION: VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.

I will run the Normans removal tools as well.

Cheers

PS. I know what you mean. They have been playing pretty football again this year. Changed alot since George Graham's days. "One nil to the Gooners". We still won't win anything!

QUOTE

Why do you want to do that, are you planning on installing another AV? Can you tell me if you are still getting redirected?

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CODE
Collect::
c:\documents and settings\LocalService\Application Data\Microsoft\UPnP Device Host\upnphost\udhisapi.dll
c:\windows\system32\kbdneprm.dll
c:\windows\Tasks\xfxticpc.job

Note: Combofix will ask you to upload some files, please let it do so.

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Hi Syler,

Certainly seems to be better, although this did happen last time and then the redirect came back. Here is the log as requested.

Thanks once again.

Hi RolyG,

Try using your computer for a couple of days and see if you get any more redirects, or if you have any other problems.

Your version of Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Look for "JDK 6 Update 21 (JDK or JRE)".
  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
  • If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
  • When the Java Setup - Welcome window opens, click the Install > button.
  • If offered to install a Toolbar, just uncheck the box before continuing unless you want it.
-- Starting with Java 6u10, the uninstaller incorporated in each new release uses Enhanced Auto update to automatically remove the previous version when updating to a later update release. It will not remove older versions, so they will need to be removed manually.
-- Java is updated frequently. If you want to be automatically notified of future updates, just turn on the Java Automatic Update feature and you will not have to remember to update when Java releases a new version.

Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click Ok and reboot your computer.

TFC(Temp File Cleaner):
  • Please download TFC to your desktop,
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It shouldn't take longer take a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.TFC(Temp File Cleaner):

Please do a scan with ESET OnlineScan

Note: If you run this in a browser other than IE you will be asked to download and install esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe
  • Click the button.
  • Check
  • Click the button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser and allow it to install the ActiveX control.
  • Check
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push
  • Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the button.
  • Push

Please navigate to the following file, then copy and paste the contents in your reply

C:\QooBox\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt

Then in your next reply, please let me know if you are having any more problems and post back here with the following logs:
  • ESET report
  • ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt
  • New DDS log

Thanks

Hi Syler,

Been away for a couple of days so just got your latest post, thank you.

I will do as you suggest and have a go online. Will report back in the next day or so. Thanks as ever.
