Lately, I have had some websites be very slow, or completely unable, to load. It has been very annoying, as I am on high speed.

At first, I was noticing in the bottom of my browswer window that it was attemping to load, instead of, or in addition to,
pagead2.googlesyndication.com
and..
something .ebaystatic.com

I use Mozilla, so I went to Adblock->preferences and blocked
*.googlesyndication.com
and..
*.ebaystatic.com

I also went to my Hosts file in Windows/drivers/etc, and
127.0.0.1 googlesyndication.com
and ebaystatic.com

That sorta fixed the problem..It is still slow at times, or unable to load, and in additon, when I browse Ebay, in order for me to change the "sort by" screen between "newly listed", or "lowest first," for example, I have to compltely reload thepage. Before these changes, I could just choose the "sort by" drop down screen, and it would change auto matically.

I have run spybot, ccleaner, regscrub, mcafee, and still having issues. I look in the status screen in the bottom of my browser (I use mozilla) and now loading something like
a.falkrag. (something like that)

Anyway, not sure if it's the websites that I use,
for example, I can't type in www.google.com and it work everytime, but if I type in the IP address for google, it works perfectly..

Again, not sure if it's the comptuer, or the websites..I ran HijackThis, and below is the log..

Thanks for the help!

Jeremy

Hello,

Uninstall Media Gateway and reboot.
After reboot, delete next folder if still present:

C:\Program Files\Media Gateway

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{855F3B16-6D32-4fe6-8A56-BBB695989046} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8F4E5661-F99E-4B3E-8D85-0EA71C0748E4} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Gateway] C:\Program Files\Media Gateway\MediaGateway.exe

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

At first, I was noticing in the bottom of my browswer window that it was attemping to load, instead of, or in addition to,
pagead2.googlesyndication.com
and..
something .ebaystatic.com

Nothing wrong with those..

For example, I can't type in www.google.com and it work everytime, but if I type in the IP address for google, it works perfectly..

Please unblock those again, delete them from your hosts file as well... because that is causing your problems as well.
I also use FireFox and noticing the same problems. When I perform a googlesearch, it sometimes hangs. I think this is because of the latest version of Firefox. Maybe it will be fixed when there is an update available.

In Internet Explorer, it works great.

Post a new hijackthislog afterwards.

Yes, as I already mentionned before, I'm having the same problems with those and Firefox. I hope an update will fix it.

Are you still blocking those domains? pagead2.googlesyndication.com
and..
something .ebaystatic.com.
Please don't, because that makes things even slower.. believe me.

If the googlesearch takes me too long, I use another searchengine like Yahoo instead.
This is a nice extension for google though:
http://www.customizegoogle.com/

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Dont click on links inside popups.
* Dont click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of the these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

Happy surfing again! :flowers:
