Hey there (my first post!). I'm a college student majoring in computer science, and I'm researching possible careers. Is anyone familiar with the operations department of tech companies? What exactly do they do? What are the hours like, compared to the software development / programming dept? What is the pay like (across all levels), and are the opportunities for advancement good? Also, has this dept. been hit hard by the recession? What would be your job title when you first join the operations dept. as a college grad?
I'm sort of debating between operations and programming as a career, so I thought I'd ask.

Thank you.
