Internet Explorer stopped working

Hi,
We just got a new computer with explorer 8 and after several weeks we get the message, "Internet Explorer is not working". Then, it closes window and tries to restart at prior webpage. The only thing different we did, that we can remember, is load DivX and also, we did get some shopper toolbar on the right which I uninstalled. Tried to disable plugins but not having any effect. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
