Have you tried a "paper clip reset" yet?

The only other suggestion I can make is Creative's recovery tool:

Well, that's not good news. As you can see on the download page, Zen V Plus is a "supported device."

I'm afraid that's the limit on my know-how. I own a Zen V Plus myself, but have never needed more than the "reset" button. You might try the forums that Creative manages for their products, <HERE>.

Good luck!

If you still need firmware the latest version is available at Creative's site.

On the other hand, if your player is working I wouldn't mess with it. That whole "If it ain't broke ... " thing.

Well, you've gone through the routine fixes. Unfortunately, like most MP3 players in its price/feature class, the V Plus is a sealed unit and isn't really designed for any kind of maintenance.

I have seen units with failing batteries do all sorts of weird things. A battery has a real-world life of about three years. If it is the battery then fully discharging it, letting it rest unused in a drawer for a few weeks, etc., may (or may not) help. Battery replacement is a lot of work, and not a guaranteed fix. And the battery is still getting older. Flash memory has also been known to develop problems.
