I recently got a few disks of the Ubuntu distro from linux (it was free, and i'm interested into getting into linux), but i can't even install the freakin thing...

I'm trying to use the AMD64 version (have an AMD64 processor, it seemed fitting...), but i can't even get to the installation menu. I've tried using the boot disk and the live disk, and can't boot.

I enter the boot menu, where u chose which version to boot (linux, expert, live, live-expert, etc), and it lists all the parameters. I've tried booting regularly, i've tried booting with specific parameters (mainly the "debian-installer/probe/usb=false" and "noapic" parameters, since the last time i tried to boot regularly i got an error regarding these).

More recently, i've been getting a "something something if no-IRQ?" statement and something malfunctioning with the kernel.

I'm trying to install it on my 2nd hard-drive (i have a main 160gb drive and another 4gb one inside). I'm trying to install it on the 4gb one because i'm not sure if i'll like it or not.

Can anyone offer advice on how to go about installing Ubuntu (the AMD64 distro) on my box using my "lesser" harddrive?
