Hi and Welcome to bleeping computer!! Posted Image

My name is David Posted Image

Please do both of the following before we start if possible!:

1) Please print off these intructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available.
2) Save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.

There is a bit to do on the log - i can almost guaruntee ewido will remove something - it's also a good free tool to keep in your arsenal!

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck.
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful") Posted Image
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Post a new HJT log and the ewido log at the end! :flowers:
David

Please do both of the following before we start if possible!:

1) Please print off these intructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available.
2) Save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
At the moment you may feel like you battling with your computer to keep it running smoothly, but doing the following things should most certainly help getting it back to how it was
_____________________

Copy everything inside the quote box below (starting with dir) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as findfile.bat on your Desktop.

dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\??rvices.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate findfile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the contents of that Notepad here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Hi David.

I restarted my computer on safe mode and my password no longer works. Why is that?

Thanks.

pepperonipizza.

p.s. Since I made this change "permanent" (via msconfig), how can i start things normally?

So when you go into safe mode and click on your name, the password doesn't work - whereas if you try in normal mode everything is fine and the password works?

p.s. Since I made this change "permanent" (via msconfig), how can i start things normally?

What did you change?

I went on run and msconfig and under boot.ini tab i changed to /safeboot. So I can't even get onto my computer on "normal" mode. I'm using my friends' computer right now.

Ok, don't really understand why you did that?!

In Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
