hi
am new to the forum with limited PC knowledge, so plz bare with me

am running windows XP, about 2 month ago i had a problem wit ha partition on a hard drive, so i took it to get it fixed & decided best to install a fresh XP.

s1st week went fine, but since then, Ive been getting a random BSOD once or twice a day, but noticed it never happens when am offline, only while am online, tried to disable Firefox plug-ins but it didn't work.

most of the early dumps pointed toward realtek HD friver, so i downladed a nice program called "Driver Genius Professional Edition" , & ended up updating most of my drivers..

still wasn't good!

i hate taking the PC to the shop coz its such a hassle to re set & re install all the programs I have

i have downloaded "bluescreenview" & here are all my my latest dump reports,

if u need me to zip my dump-files & attach them i will do that instead,

plz advice & thanx for your time,,

Wide variety of BSODs...have you done any malware scans?

Checked the system for possible overheating?

Check the hard drive?

Take a look in Event Viewer...and post the last five errors on the Application and System tabs. I would like the Event ID and the Source for each 5 errors on each tab.

thanx for the reply, Louis

PC is malware free, that was the 1st thing that accured to me.

Hard Drive was the reason i took the PC to the shop to begin with! got all of em checked & had one faulty partition removed, all right before the fresh reinstall of XP.

never had overheating problems but also got that covered & got a 2d fan installed dedicated to hard drives. even if PC on all day it still runs at avg of 31 c

found the Event Viewer, will post soon

I have noticed in your system information post that your hard drive has been running a little on the hot side.

Hard drives are often over looked as devices that can suffer from heat damage.

I would suggest installing a cooling fan located on the computers front panel blowing in at the hard drives.

As for your realtek audio, your driver does not appear to be up to date.

I will provide a link to the realtek web site for you. http://www.realtek.com.tw/

I have to warn you, not all driver locater programs offer the best drivers, in some cases they refer you to drivers that are NOT even meant to work with your hardware.

It is better if you try to locate the hardware's official drivers download or support web site for the correct drivers.

Bruce.

Now regarding your error logs you posted.

This one I see repeatedly.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Dhcp
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 9/1/2010
Time: 10:10:10 PM
User: N/A
Computer: USER-EB8939B90B
Description:
The IP address lease 10.43.24.67 for the Network Card with network address 00FFA91F573A has been denied by the DHCP server 10.43.79.254 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

DHCP is a protocol often found in a router or wireless connection.

Are you using a router?

Next error listed in your application text.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: crypt32
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8
Date: 8/31/2010

User: N/A

The error above is because your computer's attempt to retrieve updates expired, this is caused by not being able to connect to the server.

This is the second error from your applications text.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11329
Date: 8/14/2010
Time: 7:35:01 PM
User: USER-EB8939B90B\Home
Computer: USER-EB8939B90B
Description:
Product: Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 (7.1) -- Error 1329. A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file C:\Documents and Settings\Home\Local Settings\Temp\SDKSetup\WinSDK\WinSDK\cab1.cab is not digitally signed. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 7b 39 32 38 44 32 46 42 {928D2FB
0008: 31 2d 32 39 31 41 2d 33 1-291A-3

0020: 39 30 34 41 34 7d 904A4}

It appears you tried to install a program, the error is indicating a file named cab1.cab is not digitally signed by Microsoft, the warning also attempts to state the file may be corrpupt.

If this is the case, this file would be found on your Windows 7 installation disk.

If I feel it is important that you correct this error, I can tell you where to find the .cab file on your Windows 7 disk.

However, running system file checker might correct this possible error.

Try this solution below.

Click START

In the empty field type CMD

Right click CMD.EXE

Choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

In the CMD window type the following I have in bold text below and hit the enter key.

SFC /SCANNOW

Yes there is a space between the C and the /

Make sure you provide that space or SFC will not run.

If it finds any errors, it may prompt you for your Windows 7 intallation disk.

Please let me know if it found any errors.

Bruce.

hi Bruce,

1- its Windows XP not 7

2- yes am using a POS linksys WAG200G that has been giving me headache! am getting a different one as soon as i decide on one, but no linksys anymore!

3- i ran SFC /SCANNOW finally as i had problems with Windows File Protection,

i had to copy the required i386 folder and pasted it into my relevant drive, which was C:\

it finally worked as per instructions i found here ( am posting this as it could be useful to others) :

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

scan finished & didnt say anything! just disappeared! so i guess it found no errors?

Your BSOD's are referencing ntoskrnl which is the windows kernel. The chances of this being the issue are very improbable. BSOD's often point to the kernel when memory is the actual fault. I would suggest testing your memory modules 1 stick at a time with MemTest.

If you PM me your .dmp files I can further analyze them and let you know for sure

I take it you meant that by my posting run as administrator.

Hehe okay old habit since I use both XP and 7 here, but you are right.
