Hi,

I am repeatedly getting hit by intrusion attempts that Norton Security Suite is blocking. I generally get one attack after windows starts and then one every few minutes after I start Internet Explorer.
Norton reports something like this
Risk Name: HTTP Tidserv Request
Attacking Computer 91.216.73.59
Attacking URL: 91jjak4555j.com/ followed by a long series of seeminly random numbers and letters

The attacks started yesterday when I also got bit by Antimalware Doctor and Google Redirect. Before discovering your site I used Malwarebytes' Anti-malware which seems to have addressed the Antimalware Doctor and Google Redirect problems, but I cannot be sure.

I followed the instructions on the preparation guide. I ran Defogger and DDS. Below is my DDS log and the Attach.txt is attached. I am unable to create a Gmer log. Gmer runs for roughly 30 minutes and then I get a BSOD referring to pxtdypod.sys - page fault in nonpaged area.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.
  1. Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  2. Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  3. Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  4. Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  5. Do not run anything while running a fix.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

DeFogger:

    • A 'Finished!' message will appear
    • Click OK
    • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:
Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

Download DDS and save it to your desktop

    Link1
    Link2
    Link3

Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.
    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
      • DDS.txt
      • Attach.txt
    • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
    • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
    • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Hi Gringo,

Thank you for helping me. Pasted below is the dds log and rku log. The dds attach file is attached. I had trouble with Norton deleting RKUnhooker.exe each time I downloaded it. I managed to disable that portion of Norton temporarily, hopefully without exposing myself any further. In my original post I forgot to mention that windows explorer is crashing once each time I launch windows. Roughly a minute after the deskop becomes visible I get an error dialog box (I think it is a memory access violation). Explorer exits and restarts.

thanks,
steve

Greetings

One or more of the identified infections is Known as a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit <--please read

What this virus does do.
QUOTE
Functionality
The functionality that the Trojan exhibits implies that it has been designed with profit-making as its primary objective. Making money from the Web typically involves generating Web traffic, installing pay-per-install software and also by generating sales leads for other Web sites and services of a dubious nature. It tries to achieve its objective by employing an array of techniques to try and make the user participate in these income-generating activities.

What the virus can do.
QUOTE
Backdoor.Tidserv is a Trojan horse that uses an advanced rootkit to hide itself. It also displays advertisements, redirects user search results, and opens a back door on the compromised computer.

This "could" allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can clean this machine but I cannot guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

Hey Gringo,

That is certainly bad news. Following your advice I disconnected this computer from the internet and our home network. Since the computer was infected we have not used it to log onto any banking/financial related sites. I would like to believe that means our accounts are still secure. Please disabuse me of this notion if I am being naive.

I will read the links you posted and make a decision about whether to attempt a cleaning under your guidance or just reinstall windows.

thanks,
steve

Still be safe and change any online passwords and inform your bank just to keep an eye on things.
