Yesterday while reading on another tech site a pop up from my AV said it had shut down, an applet appeared in the tray saying restart the AV. All seemed Ok, when I booted up this AM I got a message that my AV was over 7 behind in updates. I immediately updated my AV again, I check for updates every time I boot up and had done so only minutes before. minutes after updating my AV Win Patrol popped up asking if I approved of "Mpldle" making a change I did not. I ran a search for Mpldle and did nit turn up anything.

Uninstall Virtumundo from control panel >> add remove program if listed there

Reboot

Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Start the program and then check the I know what I'm doing box.

Move all instances of calsp.dll and aklsp.dll (and nothing else), to the Remove pane.
Click the Finish Button and reboot.

Find and delete the file c:\windows\system\calsp.dll
Find and delete the file c:\windows\system\aklsp.dll

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Thanks for your reply! I followed your input to a T there was no Virtumundo anywhere to be found, LSP-Fix also found nothing. The Winpatrol applet popped up again this time I allowed it and rebooted and repeated all the searches inclusive of the registry still nothing. I guess I will have to do a wait and see, has me wondering if Mpldle has something to do with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Thanks again!

Hi OldPhil,

Lets see if anything turns up here.

MALWAREBYTES ANTIMALWARE
-------------------------------------------
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

regards, Elise

Hello OldPhil

LSP-Fix repairs the Winsock LSP chain by removing the entries left behind when LSP software is removed by hand or when errors in the software itself break the LSP chain, and removing any gaps in the chain. LSP-Fix is not a malware removal utility, does not target specific products and does not delete any files.

Please read the pinned sticky How do I get help? Who is helping me?

WinPatrol is a startup tool that alerts you to certain changes in the registry, programs that run at startup and running processes (tasks); lists toolbars, running services and cookies. If you highlight an entry, you can click on the Info button to gather additional information.

If you are using the Pro version, you click on PLUSInfo... which will take you to its website to see what they have to say about it. You can also do this by highlighting an entry, right-clicking on it and select PLUSInfo from the context menu.

WinPatrol will also provide the file's full path (location) on your computer. Anytime you come across a suspicious file or you want a second opinion, submit it to Jotti's virusscan or VirusTotal. In the "File to upload & scan" box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis.

Edit: I was next going to suggest using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but elise025 beat me to the reply so follow her instructions.

Hi and thanks again for the quick replies! Ccleaner, MBAM, Superantispyware and Microsoft Security Essentials all have been run on full scan all came up with clean results. I ran all three after I allowed the applet and rebooted, all seems well but will have me thinking for awhile!

Everything seems Ok but I did find file and print sharing turned on which I never do and my modem light stays on constant. I did some searching on the web and did find Mpldle in a post from back in Dec of 2004, it went through a very entailed fix that took about nine days to get fixed. If I cant come up with something better I might just scrub and build. The fix was on a site called Whatthetech!

To be on the safe side, lets run a rootkit scan. There is something out there that causes this behavior, and has a random name; maybe its just a coincidence and the "random" filename actually matched an existing name.

Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your Desktop
  • Double-click on RKUnhookerLE to run it
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan
  • Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest
  • Click OK
  • Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report
  • Save the report to your Desktop
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get this warning it is ok, just ignore

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

regards, Elise
