I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I am going crazy trying to figure out how to fix this!! I've got Norton SystemWorks 2003 Pro installed, it's running fine, checking email for viruses etc. I had been running AutoProtect, but started getting Blue Screen of Death warnings that system memory was getting low and NAP might not be able to function. Now, I don't have the fastest and greatest system in the world, but I've got about 750 mb of RAM. I got usage down pretty low and still got the message so I disabled the Autoprotect. Here's what is driving me crazy - I STILL GET THE BLEEPING MESSAGE!!! I've been trying to play some older games (Arcanum and Planescape:Torment) and that #%$& message pops up when I'm in Planescape and crashes me out.
(Arcanum was running fine but suddenly is getting an invalid page fault in mudule unknown but that's another rant...)
Lets see, here's the specs:
AMD Duron 950
BIOS: Award Software 04/11/01
765 MB memory
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 Ver. 4.0
Sound Blaster 16
most recent Direct X
um...motherboard is a year or so old,
C: 2.85 GB, 325 MB free, defragged a few days ago
G: (game drive) 10.4 GB, 1.9 GB free
Anthing else needed?

ANY help appreciated! I'm about to uninstall NAV after many many years of happy use.....

Hi Mary and welcome to BC .

Planescape torment was a great game, so I can understand your frustration. Are you fully updated in windows? When you go to www.windowsupdate.com do you have all the updates? It sounds like you may have a memory leak so you should check all your running programs and determine if you have any programs that always running that may need an update.

Let me know all that and we will dig further down into the problem

Hi, sorry to be so long responding! Midterms ate my brain...
I did go and get the latest updates from MS. I was thinking about reinstalling Norton but I can't find the blasted CD! Anyway, I got a running processes list with Spybot after closing everything I usually do before running the game:

Spybot-S&D process list report, 10/10/04 7:47:29 PM

PID: 4294965267 (4294963243) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SPOOL32.EXE
( I don't know how many times I've turned off that stupid Realplayer thing!)

I'll let you know anything else I find out, but it's still happening.
Thanks!
Mary

yup, I have the update. Even more annoying, Sun pm I was able to get Planescape to run for about 30 - 45 minutes. Tonight, even though I've rebooted and closed everything right away before I started the game, that Norton Auto-protect warning comes up within 2 minutes and freezes everything right off. 3 tries so far...I'm starting to think that my Norton Antivirus hates me!

yup,
the beloved blue screen comes up with:
Warning!
System memory is running very low. Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect may not be able to function properly.
Press any key to continue...
except, of course, pressing a key gets me back to Planescape but it is locked up or otherwise non-functional so the only key that does any good is the reset key (well, button) on the case! The message comes up sometimes when I'm doing other things, surfing or email, but usually doesn't lock me up, and not as consistently. I don't think I've been alboe to run Planescane for more than 2 minutes recently before that stupid thing comes up and crashes the game...I can't see any options but give up on the game or uninstall Norton at this point

Its strange..personally I do not think norton is that great. I would switch to avg free for a better product regardless of the problems you are having.

Thank you!! AVG is great, faster than Norton AV, and with NAV gone, no more blue screens of death! I would have posted sooner but I've been playing Planescape
Thanks again, you've saved my sanity!!
