Another Newby with a Problem

Thanks for the welcome. I'm just hoping to get some help reclaiming /exorcising what has been a reliable old XP computer, until a month or so. I'll certainly appreciate any help I can get. Well be trying to follow the procedure outlined in the Preparation Guide. If that's unfamiliar, then maybe I'm at the wrong place. But I figured its worth a try, anyhow. I had actually given up on the old machine and replaced it, but am hoping I can still keep it going for special projects, etc. BTW, I'm very inexperienced at participating in a forum like this, so if I pull a boner, please be kind and help me out.
