Hello All!!! I'm having an issue w/my friend's laptop - Sony Vaio - XP Home Edition - SP3... it seems that I can't run certain programs w/o 1st running kernrates.

I came to this conclusion in search a some means of determining the original issue which is the system locks up when I try to surf the internet or run programs like Adobe Reader or Process Explorer.

I've run chkdsk, combofix, a variety of malware/virus detection programs, i.e., Malwarebytes, Kapersky, ESET (online)... all to no avail as I'm still left w/a laptop that locks up...

I would GREATLY appreciate any help w/this issue!!!

Thanks!!!

Look in the Event Viewer and see what errors are showing up at the time that this is happening. Each error will have its own date and time shown.

Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Event Viewer.

On the right side of the page you will see the options Applications, Security, and Systems, double click on Systems. There are eight columns on this page, the three that you will want are Type, Date, Time, and Event.

The errors will appear in the Type column, they are red dots with a white X inside of them.

Warnings will appear as a yellow trinangle with an exclamation mark inside.

When you see an error, double click on it and see what the description is.

Please post the error code/s found in the Event column and the descriptions back in this topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

You have so many error codes showing that it's difficult to even begin to get a handle on this.

How long has this been going on?

Do you have the installation CD for the operating system?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

How did you "build" a installation CD?

If there weren't any problems with the installation, I would look to the hdd. If you know what the manufacturer is of the hdd you can go to their website and download their diagnostic tool to see if there are problems with it.

Sorry to butt in here, but I think this should be looked at via the MRL Team.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.
