My Win Vista PC was recently attacked by a virus thru internet browser which resulted in stange, slow behavior with all CPU bandwith hogged. I booted from BartPE prebuilder CD which I've used successfully before, and ran McAfee stinger.exe which came up clean. I then booted from WinVista CD and did a system restore to a date before virus attack. That was successful and PC booted up fine, but now my account type has been changed from admin to standard user, and the control panel users & passwords utility won't let me change it back to admin. My wireless network connection is also dead. Please advise.
Thanks,
Wazoomr

Since this seems to be a Vista issue, I am moving this to the Vista forum ~ Elise

Hello, see if this gets your connection back.
Try this--open control, internet options, connections tab, lan settings, uncheck the box next to "use proxy...."
OR
Go to Start ... Run and type in cmd
A dos Window will appear.
Type in the dos window: netsh winsock reset
Click on the enter key.

Reboot your system to complete the process.

Thanks for the reply, Boopme. You're suggestion didn't work. here's what I got:
C:\>netsh winsock reset
The requested operation requires elevation.

I think I need to fix the missing admin permissions issue. The virus has corrupted up the registry and turned my admin account to std user, and won't let me change it. As a result I cannot make any changes to the PC setup. Is it possible my PC has been infected with worm.win32.netsky?

Let's try this
Download this file and doubleclick on it to run it. Allow the information to be merged with the registry.

If you get in run W32.Netsky@mm Removal Tool

EDIT;Moved from Vista to Am I Infected

When I tried to run the FixExe.reg it wouldn't allow it to run. It gave me a red X popup box "Cannot import e:\FixExe.reg...."

I think you need to do a Vista Repair. This is not malware. Start a new topic in Vista if you need help doing this,or they may have another solution for permissions.
