Hello all, I have my friends Compaq desktop running XP SP2 and it won't boot to the desktop, not even in safe mode.
He says he thinks he downloaded a virus, but I can't even get it into Safe Mode. I get this error: Lsass.exe: Application Failed To Initialize Properly and my mouse won't work, nor my keyboard!
Right now, it's running a CHKDSK /R any other ideas?

Hello .

Lsass.exe errors can be various things, primarily either registry problems or possible malware.

Correcting either without the ability to boot the system into Windows...calls for more ability than I have.

I am adding this thread to our list of Unbootable Computers and asking someone from the BC Malware Team to take a look.

In the meantime...do not take suggestions from other members of the forum which are well-intended, but may have negative results. Thank you.

Hello, did you try to boot into Last Known Good Configuration?

regards, Elise
