I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop. The screen can only be seen with a strong light and the computer works on an external monitor. I have ruled out the video card and am wondering if it is the inverter causing the problem or the back light bulb. How can I determine the cause without using the process of elimination. I am looking for an inexpensive solution. All input appreciated.

Problem solved! I removed the display from the frame and the ribbon cable going to the inverter was unplugged.
Somehow, it came out, probably from being dropped or slammed shut? :
