I know that most of us are adults here and I am not a prude or 'holier-than-thou' but is it possible to watch some of the language in here? I'd like to think we have some dignity and carry ourselves with some respect for others. I was going to mention this before but recently  it's been getting worse.
Anyone with 2 cents to share?

This particular subject has been reported to the "powers that be", a moderator, and one other apparently also ignorant individual on the HJT ?team?.

Appears only ADMIN has the power to remove this kind of thing.

Appears to me also that this site needs a "Site Marshall" or maybe several to police the ignorant behavior of some individuals that could lead to the rapid demise and downfall of a site.

We'll clean it up, or it'll go down......

Not all here are "adults". I for one, bring on adolescents, and some seniors too, that don't want to wade through the mire.

Thanks Koan, :flowers: you're wise beyond your years, regardless of how many years that may be.
I hope someone other than Grinler can advise us on this issue or do something to change things because he has a very full plate already.
I agree that some will be turned off by the language being used here. And that would be a shame since this is the best site online. The sarcasm is unnecessary.

I for one do have a very dirty mouth, but I'm very careful not to bring any of that in here. I can't be 100% sure that I haven't, but I know that I would never intentionally do that sort of thing.

If I ever do, just shoot me a PM to straighten me out!

Part of the problem has been taken care of by our site "Host" already.

The education of others will be an on-going project.

As Will Rogers said long before you and me,

"some will, some won't; some do, some don't!"

//I've taken this out of context, of course. At the time he was talking about the reticence of major Coal Mining Companies to offer some measure of protection for the working coal miners.//

No, I'm with you ~67~. I've noticed a few instances myself. And as Koan has said, maybe we need a site Marshall. I would be more than willing to volunteer my efforts.

I addressed the subject to the HJT Tech first responder, and then to Grinler.

Grinler did correct the ADR. (Immediate concern)

But I've still an out standing question on how to deal with the problem.

You all should address your opinions to Grinler via "PM"

I'm still not satisfied with the responses I've received. thus far.

Im with 67. I agree that we are all adults, and there may even be times that our words do get the best of us. Once you realize that this site is to help people of all ages, we need to be careful what we say. There may be minors on this board at anytime. While I for one, would not want my child to learn new words from the internet, realistically, I know that it will happen while surfing. I would really hate for someone not to come to this site anymore because of what was said in a message. This can especially be true to new members, that may not be as experienced with the individuals.

I do offer an open invite to everyone who reads this. If you feel that one of my messages may be offensive, in any way, please do not hesitate to PM me. I will edit it to be more appropriate.
We are all curious like a cat. We wonder, we ask, we learn.
Please post back when a suggestion works, so that others may learn.

What have been some of the instances? Was it me using g'dam in a recent post??
I do agree with everything said on this thread so far. However, in this area, times are a changin rapidly. There's a program on TV now SUN nite ABC--"Indecent Housewives" or something similar-very rough-would have been concidered porn 10 years ago. Whether I am the offender or not, I will be more careful in the future, especially that this a very tense political time in our history. Much more so than I have ever seen.l

This is the only technical BB I have ever used. But I used to visit a Physical Fitness/weightlifting forum quite regular. There were big problems there with foulmouthed trolls. Apparently there are those out there that think that maintaining ones physical strength throughout their lives is somthing that should be ridiculed and discussed disparagingly. I do not go there very often because of the bad troll situation. It could happen that trolls could damage this board also-we must stay vigilant in this area.

I have 2 *&##@@**&^ geek questions. (1) Is it possible to increase the size of the lettering on this particular window I am typing on right now-I feel that I am about to go blind? (2) How can I access the nice ranting smilie that is shown on this thread-it's not shown on this page?? Shoul I copy it to my HD and access it from there when I need it??

Ah... No, TexasAngel67, you do not stand alone on this subject. Bad language has no place here really. There are younger kids and teens who read here, and play in the games arcade. My own children come to BC on occasion. They don't need to see nasty user names and swearing. Most kids hear bad language on occasion... wherever. That is no matter. This a public forum and members here should keep that in mind when posting here. It shouldn't be difficult for members to keep their posts free of nastiness. It's a basic courtesty to be polite. This is a great forum.. I would hate to see it mucked up with foul language. I think most members here know how to behave in a public forum. Foul language on a forum like this is so unnessecary that you could consider it troll behavior when someone does type nasty. IMHO

Everyone needs to understand that this is a dynamic site with dynamic content that can not beasily sanctioned by myself or any other moderator. We do have a a word filter on all the posts. Granted the word list is quite small, but at the time of making the board I only put some of the worst words in. They will get substituted for bleep when found in a post. If you find some are sneaking through, tell me via PM, and I will add them to the list of words being bleeped out . If you see them in a post, and are not getting bleeped (my word for censored) then pom me the link as I can see why its not getting substituted. I will also see what I can do about adding this list of badwords to the registration process so people cant register a name with them. It will be hard to do and I make no promises on this.

It is also important to note that what some may consider cursing is not considered cursing by others. An example being edbee's use of word in the previous message.

You are also saying that this has started happening now for a while where curses have been more commonly used. If so, LET ME KNOW. I can not do anything without being told. This is the first time, in a long time, that this has been brought to my attention. And every time it is brought to my attention it is fixed. I personally do not have the time to monitor every thread on this site to make sure clean language is being used. I also do not expect the people working on the logs to have to monitor every log for langauge being used. They are here to solve hijackthis logs and they doing an excellent job at that. I rely on my censor list and if words are sneaking through, I need to be told them.

As for giving someone the ability to monitor the site, unfortunately certain functions, like changing names or updating the censor list, are only available to the Administrator class and I am currently the only one and will be for the time being. There are moderators in certain forums like the HijackThis logs but there are currently no Global Moderators. Why? Because of last time with Brunt I have become wary of giving out such a powerful position again. So for if there is a problem post immeditately notify me.

I think I am objective and fair concerning this site. People in the past have contacted me with their concerns and I have addresses or told them how I felt on their concerns. I try to be fair to everyone, but at the same time not change the views as to how the site will be run. if someone has a fair point, I will address it. If I feel they are wrong, I will tell them so and why i feel that way. I am, though, not close minded and open for any issue. Do not be hesitant to bring these concerns to me.

For those who do not work on HJT logs, let me tell you they are a demanding process. The people who work on these logs, here and at the other sites, do it tirelessly. These logs though, are a big job. Some of them take a decent amount of time to reply to and consume a lot of persons time. FOr that reason, many people become machines. They get their log, scan through it, and fix it. I for one probably would not even recognize all the time the peoples names or if they cursed in it. I am to blame here as well as I am sure I have let some of these slip through in the past. That is where I need to relay on my censor list, which will be fleshed out with all your help.

The last thing I am going to address, and this quite honestly bothers me the most, is that people would call someone on this board ignorant because they chose to HELP someone here. I will not tolerate that. I do not think its fair and/or appropriate. Everyone who comes to this site does it because they honestly like to help people and like the community here. No one, and I mean no one, gets paid for working on this site. You all sacrifice time with your family and friends to help strangers. Why? Because you believe in what you are doing and want to help these people. To call someone something that could be considered insulting on this board when all that person does here is help people is worse than the cursing in my opinion. If its a troll or other jerk, then feel free to abuse them at will of course

Please do not hold back on me. My word is not law here, at least I try not to let it be.

Ignore it! Any other reaction just feeds the egos of the ignorant who troll, flame and have such limited vocabularies.
