Hi All,

My computer is infected with Antivirus 2010. I've read similar threads on here on how to remove this virus but I believe this is a different version. What happens is the following when I start computer:

1. Desktop background changes to all blue.

2. Windows Security Alert pop up comes up that states "Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system Internet files. You should imideatly (that's the spelling) run full scan etc etc" There is a YES or NO option.

3. If I click YES, a new pop up comes on and starts running scan. If I click NO or nothing at all, a new pop up comes up saying Trojan.exe is downloading, asking me to Allow or Deny its download.

The thing is there is also a large box on my desktop with a countdown timer of 15:00 minutes that warns "Your system is infected! System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected..." Once time runs out my computer shuts down and restarts the whole process again.

It does not allow me to enter safe mode via F8 or at least my computer doesn't allow it because a blue screen comes up saying there is a virus after I try to enter safe mode.

I've tried using SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes AntiMalware but it cannot scan fully given the 15 minute countdown.

Any advice on how to remove this virus in under 15 mins or enter safe mode for removal??????? PLEASE Help!!!

Hi Esq2b
Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
I'm maranatha and I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up.

Please do this.

Download ComboFix from Here

Before saving it rename it to Mobofix.com then download it to your Desktop.

Please run it this way.

It's best to disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool.
Check this link for any applicable programs you may have.
  • Close all open programs and windows
  • Double click Mobofcix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Vista/Windows7 users right click Mobofcix.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console, Please do so.

Thanks
maranatha

I'm going in the wrong direction to be in a hurry!

Hi maranatha.

Thank you for your speedy response. I will follow the above instructions as soon as I arrive home. Just an update that the Antivirus 2010 has now installed itself as a Program on Control Panel that I cannot manually remove. However, I can now browse the internet without the timer being on display.

Will update shortly.

Hi
How is the machine running?

Please do the following.
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page: one at a time
    • c:\windows\system32\ezsidmv.dat
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.

Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
Please uncheck the following settings that we do not want in our scan.
  • Sections
  • IAT/EAT
  • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive, which is typically C:\
  • Show All (This one is important, so do not miss it.)
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.

Thanks
maranatha

I tried running GMER which took several hours and froze my computer. I'm assuming the C: drive needs to be checked? I have to restart the scan and unfortunately the virus still does not allow me to enter into safe mode. I get a blue screen every time I attempt to enter safe mode.

Will restart scan and post log as soon as it is complete. Sorry for the delay.

Quick question, does GMER automatically restart the computer once completed? I allowed it to run for close to 4 hours and it appears that upon completion it restarts my computer. I'm not sure if the above is the complete log result immediately after a full scan because I wasn't around to save the results. The above was from a previous attempt at scanning after 3 hours. Is it possible that the virus shuts down my computer during the scan?

Hi
QUOTE
Quick question, does GMER automatically restart the computer once completed?

No, But GMER is an extensive scanner.

Please do this.

Please download MBR.exe to your Desktop.
Double click MBR.exe and let it run, a file called mbr.log will appear on your desk top.
Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from here or here and save the file to your desktop.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select 'Perform Quick Scan', then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Post the entire report in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please post the MBR log and the MBAM log.

Thanks
