Windows is prompting me to download service pack 3 for my windows XP.

Is this a good idea?

My searches of this subject lead me to believe that it is a good idea (provided that i first read the "Steps to take before you install Windows XP SP3" article referenced). I would think that most all bugs in SP3 have been worked out by now.

Is SP3 a good idea? Can someone confirm this for me?

thanks

Background: My old HP Pavilion 503n got a virus. I got rid of the virus. But had to go back and reinstall some stuff. I have been "starting over," so to speak. I have been getting it back up to speed.

PS forgive me if this question has already been answered on this forum and missed it.

EDIT: To elaborate and clarify

Yes, all XP 32 bit systems should now be running at SP3 level.

The SP3 mostly addresses security issues, so yes, it is well worth installing.

For others who read this, you should be aware that Microsoft no longer support Windows XP SP2:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...-packs?os=other

This means you will no longer get security updates and, thus, you will be far more vulnerable to malware infections or exploits without installing SP3.

If I have been helping you and I do not reply within 48hours, feel free to send me a PM.
