I really don't know what is happening to my computers. This one runs Vista 32bit and device mgr ! TSST corp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA Device status "...(Code 10)" and when I check for a solutions online ... 'could not load driiver software' I don't get any recommendations. When cd tray pops out and back in, it acts like it is going to start but doesn't spin.

Any suggestions??

BTW...checked driver updates for this model and there appeared to be an URGENT update which was never done. Maybe this is a case [or cases]of deferred maintenance. geeeaaad

Uninstall it from the device manager by right clicking it and clicking "uninstall".

If there are drivers available for it, download them and install them. Reboot. If it still doesn't work, you may just have a bad device. Is your machine under warranty?

One of these may help:
1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.
Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled.
or...
2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
3. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

Ok, BRONI, #3 worked; but I'm not content anymore with a fix. Does this mean that the reg was corrupted? or would you know? No matter, I do appreciate the instant fix that this provided. Do so appreciate your expertise on this site!!

Broni - I thought for this problem, it'd show the device as normal in the Device Manager. Good to know!

ckirk - no, it doesn't mean the registry was corrupted. It means something (generally Nero, Roxio, cd/dvd related software of any kind, or possibly something else entirely) installed what's called a filter driver into the device stack that caused it to stop working properly. In english it means some piece of software installed some garbage and it broke your drive - and that reg fixed just manually cleared it out.

I'm glad to see your issue being solved

I'm not content anymore with a fix

??

Does this mean that the reg was corrupted?

Not registry as a whole, but a certain part of it was.
My fix attempted (successfully) to correct the issue.

Thanx Broni...I really am trying to understand more of the problem than JUST the fix...though the fix is always good and much appreciated. I use this laptop to stream my netflix onto a TV. I really love this stuff but it can get JUST a little frustrating at times. Thanx again...You can close this one.
